U.S. Marshals arrest fugitive in Randolph

RANDOLPH — The U.S. Marshals Service surrounded a home in Randolph Friday afternoon and one person was apprehended.

Acting on a tip, the U.S. Marshals’ District Office based in Sioux City, Iowa, went to 704 S. Main St. in Randolph, said Brandon Johnson, the District Office supervisor.

Once at the property, the U.S. Marshals located a vehicle utilized by a wanted man, Dylan Denavites, Johnson said.

Denavites was located inside the home and surrendered without incident. He was arrested on suspicion of making terroristic threats, resisting arrest, failure to appear and possession of a controlled substance.

But once they had their man, the U.S. Marshals didn’t have a swift getaway out of town.

As one of the officers was leaving the home on South Main Street, he ran his vehicle over top of a gas meter, causing it to break off and open a large gas leak, said Randolph Fire Chief Jim Scott.

The emergency whistle sounded to dispatch Randolph’s Volunteer Fire Department.

With the way the vehicle was positioned on top of the meter, the department had to use Jaws of Life equipment to remove the car.

“It was interesting. It was literally right on top,” Scott said.

Once the vehicle was removed, Black Hills Energy was able to plug the meter and stop the flow of gas.

Scott said volunteer firefighters were on scene for about 45 minutes to extract the vehicle. There were no injuries in the incident.

The U.S. Marshals enforce federal laws, providing security for federal court facilities; apprehending criminals; providing transportation and security of federal prisoners; executing federal court orders; seizing assets gained by illegal means for the custody, management and disposal of forfeited assets; assuring the safety of endangered government witnesses and their families; and collecting and disbursing funds.
