Bears suffer first defeat of the season
LAUREL — The LCC Bears were looking Friday for their first 4-0 start to the season since joining the eight-man ranks.
It was not meant to be, though, as they dropped a 34-24 decision to Neligh-Oakdale on Friday in a battle of unbeatens.
The Warriors got out to a quick 12-0 lead, but LCC came back to take a 16-12 advantage in the second period. Ty Erwin and Cael Hartung connected on a pair of touchdown passes, including a 12-yarder in the first period and a 20-yard early in the second. Dylan Reimers and Noah Schutte ran in two-point conversions to give the Bears the advantage.
Neligh-Oakdale regained the lead momentarily, but LCC took it back late in the first half when the Erwin-to-Hartung connection made its mark again, this time on a 58-yard play for their third touchdown of the night. Deagan Puppe ran in the conversion to make it 24-20 at intermission.
