Landowners are urged to control ditch weeds

HARTINGTON — Cedar County commissioners got an update on noxious weeds at their June 11 meeting.

Dave Boschult, the Nebraska State Noxious Weed Control Superintendent met with the commissioners which he does annually.

Discussion centered around who has responsibility for the county road ditches in terms of noxious weed control and removing trees and tree saplings in the road ditches. The red cedars and Chinese Elms are prevalent in a lot of areas of the county in the road ditch and thistles, leafy spurge and other noxious weeds are also problems that need to be controlled by the landowner as it is not the responsibility of the county road crew.
