Haug is expected to make first court appearance this week

Haug to be charged with five Felonies

HARTINGTON — Attempted murder suspect Kevin Haug is expected to make his first court appearance Wednesday in Cedar County Court.

Haug is now behind bars at the Antelope County Jail.

Cedar County Attorney Edward H. Matney said Cedar County law enforcement, in coordination with the Nebraska State Patrol, formally took Haug, 44, into custody Friday on the allegations of Attempted Murder in the First Degree, Assault in the First Degree, Burglary, Use of a Deadly Weapon to Commit a Felony and Possession of a Deadly Weapon to Commit a Felony.

Haug had been hospitalized since the evening of July 2 from injuries sustained in a motor-vehicle collision, in which he suffered several broken bones.

He was arrested Friday at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha by the Nebraska State Patrol, who then transferred custody to Cedar County authorities. Cedar County Chief Deputy Chad Clausen then took him to the Antelope County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond. He is being housed in Neligh because that facility has medical facilities that are better able to take care of Haug’s medical needs, said Cedar County Sheriff Larry Koranda.
