Coleridge Food Pantry is serving a vital need here

COLERIDGE — “I think every community needs a food pantry, I was very happy there is one in our community,” said Pastor Russ Lambert, pastor of the Immanuel Lutheran Church.

The Coleridge Food Pantry is under the direction of the group known as Coleridge Christians Caring.

Coleridge Christians Caring and the food pantry both got their start in 1986. Originally, it was housed in Hartington, making it a trek for the members of Coleridge Christian Caring when a box was needed. A short time later, the food pantry would be moved to the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Coleridge. It has been located in the basement of the church ever since.

Immanuel Lutheran Church set aside a room to house the canned goods and non-perishables. Community members have donated shelving units and a freezer to expand the food pantry’s size.

The churches of Coleridge come together a few times a year to worship as in Good Friday and Thanksgiving. During this time, the community comes together to be reminded of God’s love, the community is also focused on the mission field and how to help. One way is through the offering given at these two worship services. The offering is donated to the group Coleridge Christians Caring. From here, the group uses the offering money in ways to help the community.
