Bill would change state aid formula for K-12 public schools

LINCOLN — A bill that would change the state’s formula for state aid to K-12 public schools received public support and criticism during a hearing earlier this month.

LB 695, introduced by Sen. Mike Groene of North Platte, would replace the existing formula. Groene said the bill would provide long-term property tax relief for all Nebraskans and would stabilize the Tax Equity and Educational Opportunities Support Act.

“Let’s make the formula reflect the reality of real-life economic factors,” Groene told the Education Committee.

TEEOSA began in the early 1990s as a way to provide state aid to schools.
