Verdigre man is elected to guide County Supervisors

CENTER — Knox County Supervisors put things in place for the 2017 year during the meeting Jan. 10.
Board members elected James Sokol Jr., Verdigre, to continue serving as the 2017 Chairman. Virgil Miller, Verdigre, will be the Vice-Chairman of the board.
Danny Schlote, Wausa, was elected to serve as the 2017 Chairman for the Knox County Board of Equalization. Kevin Mackeprang, Bloomfield, will serve as the Vice-Chairman.
Board members set the 2017 salary for Veterans Service Officer Gary Jones, Verdigre, at $19.75 per hour. The previous salary was $19.25. Jones has been serving as the Veterans Service Officer since November 2014.
Board members told Jones he had been doing a good job.
Board members placed their approval on the annual retention for County Highway Supt. Kevin Barta for 2017.
Barta has served as the Knox County Highway Superintendent for 19 years.
Changes could be coming up on Tax Increment Financing, according to Schlote who had attended the NACO Conference in December.
“They talked about it at the Conference. There are really some concerns that TIF is not being used in the right way in some of the counties,” Schlote said.
County Attorney Monica McManigal said she had some concerns on how TIF had been used in Knox County.
“TIF is to be used for the infrastructure,” McManigal said.
