Relay for Life team to sponsor fundraisers

CREIGHTON — The 2013 Knox County Relay For Life has changed its date from July to May 31, at 7 p.m. to June 1, ending at 7 a.m. at the Bill Harder Memorial Field Track, Creighton. Plans are being finalized and participating teams are busy with their fundraisers.

The Wanna-B-Lifesavers (the Leader-Guenther family team) is making a Cancer Awareness Concrete Ribbon Ornament available that can be ordered in memory or in honor of someone. The ornament is 22 inches tall and will be made in the color that you choose. The available colors, each different color specifies a specific kind of cancer, are Pink – Breast Cancer, Green – Ovarian, Cervical and Uterine Cancer, White – Lung Cancer, Black – Melanoma, Orange – Leukemia, Navy – Colon Cancer, Yellow – Childhood Cancer, Lt. Blue – Prostate Cancer, Purple – Pancreatic Cancer, Gray – Brain Cancer, Red-Multi – Myeloma (bone) Cancer, Lavender – All other cancers.

They can be ordered by calling Sharlene Guenther, Crofton, phone: 402-388-4387; or Merina Leader, Bloomfield, phone: 402-373-4503 or any Wanna-B-Lifesaver team member. All ornaments will be made after they are ordered. Arrangements for picking them up will also be made when ordered.

The team is also having a raffle that includes eleven prizes. First prize is a beautiful queen-sized Pink Cancer Awareness Quilt. Prizes 2-11 are: One-Year Subscriptions to the following publications, Nebraska Land Magazine, Living Here, The Bloomfield Monitor, Creighton News, Crofton Journal, Niobrara Tribune, Osmond Republican, Plainview News, Verdigre Eagle and the Wausa Gazette. The local newspaper publishers donated the subscriptions and have supported Relay For Life by publishing all the information leading up to the event.

The Quilt and a Concrete Ribbon Ornament, done in pink to represent breast cancer, are on display at the Bloomfield florist shop, Petals and More.
