County Supervisors open bridge bid, talk about prisoners

CENTER — Knox County Supervisors opened bids for a bridge project, extended the deadline on a Conditional Use Permit, were provided information on an agreement for feeding prisoners and reviewed the salary amount for a county employee during the Dec. 8 meeting.

Bids submitted ranging from $238,816 up to $329,700 for a Federal Buyback Bridge project located north of Crofton were opened during the meeting.

The project involves a 30×80 foot bridge on a major east-west road, according to County Hwy. Supt. Kevin Barta.

Board members gave their approval on the low bid of $238,816 submitted by Norfolk Contracting.

“We have worked with them before. They do a good job,” Barta said

An inventory on county road signs will soon take place. A reflectometer will be used to check the road signs to make sure travelers are able to read the markings on the signs – day or night.
