Wausa girls fall to Hartington team

WAUSA — The Wausa girls basketball team lost 57-38 to Hartington-Newcastle last Tuesday night as the Lady Vikings struggled to make baskets early. Esther Nelson and Megan Kleinschmit led the team with 10 points a piece. Kleinschmit went five for nine from the floor, and Nelson went three for eight on field goals while also making four of six free throws.

Kleinschmit also led the team in rebounds, with nine — just one board shy of a double-double. Wausa’s post managed well on the boards against HNS, with both teams being nearly even. HNS grabbed 33 to the Lady Vikes 30, and both teams snatched more offensive rebounds than defensive. Wausa struggled maintaining possession at times, with 13 of the team’s 15 turnovers coming from HNS steals.
