The future of Wausa’s Smorgasbord is on the table

WAUSA — Wausa residents and members of the Smorgasbord Planning Committee are taking a close look at the Swedish Smorgasbord that has been part of the community for close to 74 years.
Residents gathered at a community meeting Tuesday evening, April 25, to talk about the future of the Smorgasbord.
Attendance at the annual event has dropped during the last few years and it has become more difficult to find people who will help prepare the Swedish food and are able to work at the event. It takes more than 100 volunteers to organize and run the event according to Marge Nelson, a member of the Smorgasbord Planning Committee.
“We are faced with declining attendance,” Nelson said. “There are so many activities going on and people are so busy.”
Fifteen people attended the meeting held at the Meeting Room located in the building which previously housed the library.
