Pictures that recall Wausa’s past requested for book

Wausa store

WAUSA — Can you identify this store or the people in it? This picture was in a photo album that was shared with Wausa’s 125th anniversary history book committee.

We would like to have photos from your family’s early years in the community. We are asking for indoor and outdoor shots, farming as well as businesses. Farming has changed so much and a comparison of planting or harvesting, then and now, would be appreciated. The committee is also looking for someone to gather photos and memories for an agriculture section.

A special section of Wausa’s 125th anniversary history book will be devoted to our servicemen and women. Information with pictures, if available, are needed. If you have information on charter members of the local American Legion or Veterans of Foreign Wars posts, please submit this history.

As you are gathering information—your family histories, present and past businesses, agriculture (especially farms owned by the same family for several generations), and other memories of life in Wausa, be sure to include pictures. If you have photos, they may be taken to Commercial State Bank in Wausa to be scanned while you wait and returned to you.

You will be asked to fill out a short form with information about the picture. They can also be given, with the article, to any member of the committee.

People are needed to research and coordinate information on various sections of the book. If you have a special interest—or are just interested in Wausa’s past, your help is needed. Contact a committee member for more information.

In order to have a complete history, it is important to have articles that appeared in the Wausa’s centennial book updated and published also in the current book. Any stories of past residents must be submitted again in order to be included. Original pictures are needed.

If you have ideas for things to include in the history book, or if you would like to help, please contact a member of the book committee: Herb Bengston, Murray Peters, JoAnn Kumm, Marge Nelson or Vicky Mainquist.

Submit your stories and ideas by email to: or by mail to Vicky Mainquist, 301 E. Broadway St., Wausa, NE 68786.
