Knox Co. to receive funding for bridge project

CENTER — Knox County is in line to receive right at $150,000 in state funding for a bridge project through the Nebraska Department of Roads County Bridge Match Program. A truss bridge approximately one-half mile north of Creighton has been selected for the program.
Knox County’s project was one of 22 proposals that were selected out of the 80 proposals that had been submitted across the state, according to Knox County Highway Supt. Kevin Barta.
“We submitted two proposals – one made the cut. The estimated cost for the bridge project is close to $350,000. The maximum the State will pay on any proposal will be $150,000,” Barta said. “The 70-foot bridge, which is over Bazile Creek, will be replaced with a 90-foot bridge. The project will be contracted out.”
The selection process for the County Bridge Match Program included a point system. Innovation, bridge significance, maintenance and a county’s needs were among the things that were considered.
