Historic 1887 Schoolhouse is on the move

1887 Grant schoolhouse

The 1887 Grant schoolhouse District # 122 moved from Dave and Staci Kleinschmit’s place on 874th Road a mile east of Wausa on Wednesday, Oct. 8.

Dan and Angie Wamberg interested in preserving local history moved the 127 year old school building to their acreage northwest of town.

Angie Wamberg said, “We wanted to preserve a piece of history.   We have been looking for a schoolhouse for a while.  There are only three left in the area.”

The school house traveled approximately ten miles leaving the Kleinschmit farm traveling north on Highway 121, turning west on to 878 road, and concluding the journey five or so miles west of Highway 121 at Dan and Angie Wamberg’s hobby farm.
