Bd. hires asst. coach

WAUSA — The Wausa School Board added to the coaching staff Monday and continued to review the Strategic Planning Survey.

A new assistant coach for the 2016-17 varsity boys basketball team was hired during the Wausa School Board meeting on Nov. 21 when Board members placed their approval on hiring Joe Pfansteil, who is currently a student teacher at the Wausa School.

Pfansteil had expressed an interest in the position, said Supt. Brad Hoesing.

A date has been set for the Strategic Planning Retreat.

The meeting will be held at noon on Saturday, Dec. 10 in the Superintendent’s Office.

Board members will go over the data that was collected in the Strategic Planning Prioritization Survey and look at the long term plan. The next phase for an action plan will be put in place.

“The board members have spent close to six months collecting data,” Hoesing said. “I am excited about this. This will be a step forward for all of us.”

The Planning Retreat will include a full board and will be open to the public. The meeting is expected to last close to four hours.

“I want to encourage others to attend if they want to,” Hoesing said.

Board members agreed to begin using the E-meeting format for all future school board meetings.

People will be able to go on-line and see the agenda for the school board meetings, view the Superintendent’s, Principal’s and Activities Director’s reports and read the minutes from the previous school board meeting.

Close to 20 minutes of instruction on E-meetings and how to use it was provided to the board members during the school board meeting.

“This will promote transparency for our patrons which is what we want to do,” Hoesing said.

The third negotiation committee meeting, which involves teacher’s salaries and benefits, will be held on Nov. 29.

It will not be a public meeting according to Hoesing.

Board member Terry Johnson talked about the process for completing evaluation on Supt. Hoesing.

Johnson said he would be sending out the evaluation forms to the other board members.

They will need to be completed and returned before the December board meeting according to Johnson.

The date for the next month’s Wausa School Board meeting was set for Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 7 p.m.
