Vets Memorial to be Moved

Hartington —  Cedar County Commissioners agreed Tuesday to spend $36,801 to move the Cedar County Veteran’s Memorial Monument.
The monument is presently located on the northeast corner of the courthouse lot.
The monument will be moved to the south side of the courthouse so a new addition can be built on the northwest side of the courthouse.

Construction Manager Ed Bottolfsen said removing some of the lights proposed for the monument and flag poles around it would save the county at least $5,300.
After shaving a few dollars from the estimate, the County agreed to accept the bid to move the monument, and build an area on the south of the courthouse to house it and all the flag poles associated with it. It is hoped the project would be completed by  some time in late May.
Commissioners discussed dressing up the area with paving bricks, but decided against it, because that would add $4,000 to the project.
Commissioner Dave McGregor said the paving brick would look good, but there may be other things to spend that $4,000 on as the project goes along, he said.
