Plea entered on one assault case

HARTINGTON — Two men, who were arrested earlier this year on separate sexual assault charges, made appearances in District Court Nov. 21.
William Kelly, Dixon, entered a plea of “not guilty.”

Kelly, 37, had been charged with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of incest, which are felonies, and has been held in the Cedar County Jail since his arrest in February. The case will be heard by a jury Dec. 14.
Kelly’s attorney, Doug Stratton, asked permission for Kelly to appear in court in street clothes and that Kelly be unshackled at the trial. Judge Paul Vaughn granted the request.
Cedar County Attorney George Hirschbach told the judge a plea agreement had been reached concerning Keith Newman, who has been sitting in Cedar County Jail since being arrested in June on a sexual assault, Class II Felony.
The arrest was made after an investigation was completed by Randolph Police and a Nebraska State Patrol Investigator on an alleged sexual assault perpetrated upon a 14 year-old female.
Newman’s hearing was continued until Dec. 5, at 9 p.m. His plea will be taken at that time.
