Obituary – Helen Kalin

COLERIDGE — Helen Kalin, 78, Coleridge, died March 9, 2008, at her residence.
Visitation, with a Vigil Service and Video Tribute, were March 11 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Coleridge, and continued one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.


Mass of Christian Burial will be March 12, at 10:30 a.m., at the St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Coleridge, with Rev. John Pietramale officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Michael’s Cemetery, Coleridge.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Shane Kalin, MacKenna Kalin, Karly Kalin, Houston Huss, Hiliary Huss, Griffon Kalin and Caleb Kalin. Pallbearers will be Melissa Engel, Jessica Nelson, Nathan Kalin, Jared Kalin, Kiel Kalin, Kody Kalin and Kiefer Kalin.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington.
Helen was born Nov. 9, 1929, at Belden, to Elmer and Laura (Larson) Linn. She grew up in the Randolph area and graduated from the Randolph High School in 1947. She attended Wayne State College and received her teaching certificate, and taught country school. Helen married Clarence Kalin June 9, 1952, in Coleridge. They lived on the Kalin home place and Helen worked at the Park View Haven Nursing Home for 31 years. For the majority of that time, she was the activities director. She retired in 2006.
She was a member of the St. Michael’s Catholic Church and Altar Society, the Wee Willing Workers Extension Club, and the Coleridge American Legion Auxiliary Post 114.
She enjoyed attending her children and grandchildren’s activities.
Helen is survived by six children and their spouses, Lynn “Ed” and Donna Kalin, Coleridge; Fred and Sheryl Kalin, Coleridge; Brad and Dee Dee Kalin, Norfolk; Byron and Karen Kalin, Norfolk; Beth and Dan Huss, Stanton; and Blair and Sharon Kalin, Hartington; 14 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Veronica and Harry Calhoon, Laurel, and Loretta and Jim Keating, Lincoln; and a brother-in-law, Kearney and Katie Lackas, Belden.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence, Dec. 14, 2002, at the age of 77; a brother, Harold Linn; a sister, Ruth Frederick; and a sister-in-law, Carol Lackas.
