Wynot tops Newcastle in their final meeting

WYNOT — The Wynot Blue Devils gave up more yards than they amassed on Friday against the Newcastle Raiders but they came out way ahead on the scoreboard as they clipped the Raiders 60-28.

Kyle Mohr was a one- man-show for the Raiders as he rushed for 230 yards and passed for another 84 and provided all of Newcastle’s scoring with four touchdowns and two PATs.
Wynot provided a more balanced offensive attack.
Koby Sudbeck carried the ball 10 times for 104 yards and scored four rushing touchdowns.  Seamus Koch collected 67 yards on 15 carries  along with two touchdowns and Jackson Sudbeck connected on 8-9 passes for 87 yards for the Blue Devils.
Scott Foxhoven anchored the defense for the Blue Devils with 11 tackles and two fumble recoveries, while Austin Wieseler was a factor with nine stops and an interception on the night.
“This was a physical game and the team played together the entire time to come away with the win,” said Wynot head coach Steve Heimes
The Blue Devils got off to a fast start as they marched 65 yards in just seven plays to score on their first offensive set. Koby Sudbeck swept around the left side for 25 yards to cap the drive. Brady Stratman added the PAT run and Wynot was up 8-0.
The Raiders went three-and-out and on the ensuing punt Austin Wieseler would bolt 54 yards with the return for Wynot’s second touchdown. Jackson Sudbeck hit Davis Wieseler with the PAT and Wynot’s lead went to 16-0 still early in the first quarter.
Wynot added a third score in the opening frame at the 5:20 mark when  a Scott Foxhoven fumble recovery gave them the ball near mid field.
Jackson Sudbeck then hit Davis Wieseler on a short crossing pattern and Wieseler did the rest as he weaved his way 57 yards for the score. The same duo connected for the PAT.
Newcastle would mount a drive in the final minutes of the first quarter. Kyle Mohr would hook up with Austin Blatchford on a 13-yard touchdown pass. Mohr ran in the PAT as the first quarter ended with Wynot leading 24-6.
The second quarter saw the Blue Devil offense continue to roll. Another Foxhoven fumble recovery gave the Blue Devils good field position and Wynot would capitalize. Mixing runs and passes they marched 35 yards in five plays. Koby Sudbeck powered in from the one-yard line for the score. Sudbeck and Davis Wieseler connected on a fade in the left corner for the PAT.
The defense held and two plays later Koby Sudbeck broke free again and galloped 55 yards to paydirt. The Sudbeck to Wieseler PAT combo worked again for the PAT.
Wynot got one final score before the half. After an Austin Wieseler interception and return the Blue Devils were in business again. Seamus Kock capped the short drive with a 1 yard plunge. The PAT run was stopped and Wynot went into the half with a commanding 46-6 lead.
The third quarter saw the scoring barrage slow for the Blue Devils. Koby Sudbeck would pick up his third touchdown of the night as he capped  a 55-yard drive by Wynot with an eight-yard blast off the right side. Jackson Sudbeck hit Davis Wieseler for their fifth PAT pass connection of the night to make the score 54-6.
Newcastle’s Kyle Mohr continued to amass yards as he would rumble 40 yards for a Raiders’ touchdown late in the period. Mohr also ran in the PAT making the score 54-14 after three quarters of play.
Reserves came in for the Blue Devils in the final quarter. Kyle Mohr would bolt 25 yards to paydirt early in the final frame.
At the six-minute mark Mohr would take the pitch and turn the left corner of the Blue Devils defense and tight rope down the side line for a 75-yard scoring jaunt. Mohr ran in the PAT to cut Wynot’s lead to 54-28.
Wynot would add one last score for the night as Seamus Koch carried most of the load with runs of 15, 5 and 3 yards. Koch capped the drive with a one-yard push up the middle.
