Wynot rebounds after first loss of 2011

BLOOMFIELD  — Wynot bounced back from its first loss of the season last week to rip off a four-game win streak.
Highly-touted Homer handed Wynot its first loss of the season Sept. 26 at the Newcastle Tournament.
Despite the loss to Homer, 11-5, the Lady Devils came back to defeat Ponca and Newcastle.
The Wynot girls then traveled to Bloomfield on Thursday for a triangular defeating Newcastle again and Bloomfield.
Wynot moved to 10-1 on the season with the wins.

Sam Wieseler and Maggie Schulte each had three kills against Newcastle to lead the Blue Devils, while Shelby Wieseler had six set assists and Ashley Heine posted three ace serves.

Shelby Hochstein pounded down five kills in the win over Bloomfield, while Ashley Heine had four kills, Maggie Schulte and Kattie Savoy paced the defense. Schulte earned six blocks, while Savoy dug out 11.
Wynot Coach Tammy Wieseler was pleased to get the win, but said her team still needs work.
”I would like to see us pick up our offense, some,” she said. “We were a little slow attacking.”

The Blue Devils were able to take advantage of their depth in the two-set win against Newcastle at the Bloomfield event.
Zoey Heimes led the team at the service line and in digs to aid the Lady Devils to the two-set victory.

The Lady Devils opened the Newcastle tourney againt Ponca. Ponca fought point for point in the first match before Wynot pulled out the 26-24 victory. The Lady Devils then cruised to a 25-12 win in the second set for the win.
Wynot was led at the net in the contest by Sam Wieseler’s six kills.
The Lady Devils had trouble because they did not play their type of game, Coach Wieseler said.
”We did not play the type of up-tempo game that I would have liked to have played,” she said.

Homer out-pointed Wynot in the first set to earn a 25-23 win over the Lady Devils. The Lady Knights then kept Wynot off guard as they earned the 25-11 decision in the second set for the sweep.
”Our blocking was no where to be found in this game,” Coach Wieseler said. “We were late getting to everything. We fought hard in the first set, but in the second set, they pretty much did whatever they wanted to with us, and we couldn’t do anything about it.”
