Lady Cats top Wausa for L&C victory

WAUSA — The Hartington Lady Wildcats picked up a Lewis and Clark Conference win over the Wausa Lady Vikings Tuesday.
The Lady Cats opened a 9-2 first quarter margin and were able to maintain the lead the entire game despite some scoring runs by the Lady Vikings. Hartington was able to seal the game at the end with free throws as they earned the 42-31 win.

Hartington was led by Myranda Fischer with 14 points and Taylor Dybdal just missed a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
Wausa got 13 points from Abbi Hegge and seven points each from Gabe Swanson and Leanna Rosberg.
“This was kind of a seesaw game as we would get up by double figures and then let Wausa close the gap before widening it again. We didn’t always finish on some plays I thought we should have but a nice win,“ said Hartington head coach Josh Morten.
Hartington got a three-pointer from Myranda Fischer and field goals from Taylor Dybdal, Megan Wolfe and Samantha Huss to help them to a 9-2 first-quarter lead.
Fischer hit another three and scored seven second-quarter points along with a put back by Taylor Dybdal and a pair of Megan Wolfe free throws as they expanded the lead to 22-9 at the half.
Wausa would use the long ball to try and rally in the third quarter. Abbi Hegge drained a pair of three pointers and Gabbi Swanson also connected from long range as Wausa cut into the lead 31-18.
The Lady Vikings got four more points each from Leanna Rosberg and Abbi Hegge in the final quarter and then sent Hartington to the line to try and get back in it. Hartington would hit only 7-14 from the stripe but it was good enough to seal the victory.
