Lady Cats top Allen in consolation game

HOMER — The Hartington Lady Wildcats downed the Allen Lady Eagles 44-40 in the consolation bracket of the Lewis and Clark Conference Tuesday.
The Lady Cats were able to gradually build an early lead and then were forced to hit their free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
Hartington was led by Samantha Huss with 11 points and Myranda Fischer also hit double figures with 10 points. Taylor Dybdal contributed to the win with nine points and eight boards.
Allen got a big 18-point performance from Brittany Sullivan to lead all scorers.
The Lady Wildcats would get five points from Taylor Dybdal and a three-pointer by Myranda Fischer staked them to a  12-5 first-quarter lead.
Allen rallied back in the second frame as they went on a 10-6 run of their own. Brittany Sullivan hit a pair of field goals and Rachel Finnegan hit a floater in the lane as the Lady Eagles cut the lead for Hartington to 18-15 at the half.
In the third quarter Hartington got seven more points in the paint from Samantha Huss and fieldgoals by Shelby Hochstein and Taylor Dybdal to lead their offense.
Allen countered with a trey and eight points from Brittany Sullivan and they hit 8-12 charity tosses and cut further in to the Lady Wildcat lead as the Lady Eagles only trailed 32-30 going into the final quarter of play.
In the fourth and deciding quarter Allen got a three-pointer from Lindsey Sullivan and field goals from Sullivan and Alexis Johnson to lead yet still another rally attempt.
Hartington got fieldgoals by Micheala Dendinger and Kristina Huss and clutch free throws from Shelby Hochstein and Samantha Huss to seal the victory. 44-40.
