Hartington squeaks out win over Stanton

HARTINGTON — Hartington came out on top of a pitcher’s duel with Stanton to earn a 2-1 win and advance to Monday’s final winner’s bracket game.

Neither team was able to score until Hartington finally pushed a run across the plate in the fifth inning.

Frank Herbolsheimer led off the inning with a walk, but picked up an extra base on the play on a passed ball. Trent Jansen then singled to move Herbolsheimer to third base. Zach Wuebben then walked to load the bases and  Tyler Loberg’s bloop to the pitcher allowed the Stanton hurler to toss Herbolsheimer out at the plate. The slow developing play allowed Jansen to race home ahead of  the throw to the plate, giving Hartington the 1-0 lead.

Hartington plated another run in the sixth inning after Cody Lammers reached base on an error then advanced on a Dalton Lammers bunt. Frank Herbolsheimer’s RBI single then plated Lammers to give Hartington the 2-0 advantage.

Stanton’s offense finally produced a run in the seventh inning when Mitchell Sieh singled and moved to second on a passed ball. He then scored on Blaine Meyer’s RBI single. The Hartington defense wouldn’t allow the rally to continue, though and Hartington ended up with the win.

Zach Wuebben tossed a five-hitter to earn the win on the mound for Hartington. He also gave up five walks, but struck out 10 Stanton batters. Mick Claussen was saddled with the loss.
