Cedar wrestlers earn medals


ELGIN — Cedar Catholic competed in its first two wrestling tournaments of the year last week.
The Trojans had three athletes earn medals at the Elgin Pope John meet here Saturday.
Two Cedar wrestlers picked up medals at the Stanton Invitational Thursday.

Cedar Catholic sophomore Chad Koch earned a second-place medal at the Elgin meet. He picked up a fourth-place medal in Stanton. Koch’s only loss in Stanton was to Crofton’s Ben List. Koch now has a 6-2 record on the year.
Senior heavyweight Nathan Kathol picked up a fifth-place medal at Stanton. He pinned Atkinson West Holt’s Jesse Poessnecker to earn the medal.
He earned a fourth-place medal at Elgin.
Dump did not compete at Stanton, but earned a third-place medal in the heavyweight division at Elgin. He now has a 3-1 record on the year. Dump defeated Greeley-Wolbach’s Jordan Magensen with a quick pin to advance to the thir-place match against Nathan Kathol, who was wrestling unattached at the meet. Dump then defeated Kathol in the first period to earn the bronze.
Randolph picked up 145 points to win the team championship at Elgin. Newman Grove was second. Cedar finished in 10th place.
Four other wrestlers also competed at the meets for Cedar Catholic.
Freshman Jordan Anderson earned his first varsity win of the year at Stanton. Anderson pinned Nathan Dierks,  Elgin Pope John, for the win.
Freshman Michael Wuebben, sophomore Nathan Leise and junior Mark Wortmann also competed for Cedar.
