Big third quarter lifts Wausa past Cats

WAUSA — The Hartington Wildcats traveled to Wausa to take on the Vikings in Lewis and Clark Conference action on Tuesday night.
The Vikings were able to break open a tight ball game with an 18-9 third-quarter run and the Wildcats were not able to generate enough offense to make up the deficit as Wausa earned the 50-40 win.

Hartington was led by Nick Miller with 15 points to take top scoring honors for the game.
Adam Hochstein and Ross Hegge contributed eight and seven points respectively to the Wildcats offense.
Wausa also got balanced scoring, led by Austin Conn with 12 points and nine points each from Marcus Claussen and Spencer Rosberg.
“I felt we played well enough to win this one as the boys did a nice job on defensing their ball screens and slowing down their offense. Wausa got that run in the third quarter and we were unable to get back in it,” said Hartington Coach Nick Haselhorst.
Wausa started out hot. Austin Conn rattled in 10 first quarter points to jump start the Viking offense.
Marcus Claussen also hit a trey for Wausa.  Hartington go a  pair of fieldgoals each from Nick Miller and Adam Hochstein as they trailed 19-10 after one period of play.
Hartington gained some ground back in the second quarter.
A long three-pointer by Ross Hegge and fieldgoals by Hochstein and Miller cut the Viking lead to 22-19 at the half.
Wausa would get their offense on track again in the third quarter as they went on a 18-9 run to reopen the lead to 41-28.

A pair of field goals each from Marcus Claussen, Reid Friedrich and a three pointer by Spenser Rosberg did most of the damage for the Vikings.
Nick Miller would hit another three-pointer and scored seven fourth-quarter points to try and rally the Wildcats. Wausa got field goals from Claussen, Rosberg and Logan Bloomquist as they fought off the comeback attempt and earned the 50-40 win.
