Lady Wildcats still searching


HARTINGTON — The Hartington Lady Wildcats continue to search for a win this season.
In a battle of winless teams Tuesday, the Allen Eagles picked up their first win of the season on when they downed the Hartington Lady Wildcats 54-42 in Lewis and Clark Conference action.

Allen got 16 points each from Codi Hingst and Jenny Warner to lead them to the win. Hartington was led by the trio of Nikole Folker with eight points and seven points each from Sheila Wiebelhaus and Liz Kneifl.
Five points from Sheila Wiebelhaus led the Lady Cats in the first quarter but the Lady Eagles got six points late in the quarter from Jenny Warner to lead Allen to the 15-11 early lead.
Both teams found the bottom of the nets often in the second quarter. Hartington’s Nikole Folkers lit up the scoreboard for 8 points while Allen’s Codi Hingst hit a pair of three pointers and connected for 8 points as well for the Allen Lady Eagles.
Allen’s 21-19 run gave them a 36-30 halftime advantage.
Kylie Bakke hit a trey to open the third quarter to cut the lead to 2 points but after that the Wildcats went cold. Codi Hingst hit another trey and scored 5 points as Allen increased their lead to 46-35 at the end of three periods.

The fourth quarter featured free throw shooting. Hartington hit 4 of 9 while Allen made only 3 of 8 but that was not good enough to close the gap and Allen picked up their first win of the season with the 54-42 win.

HARTINGTON — Wakefield put Hartington in a 19-13 first-quarter hole and then hung on for the 45-36 win here.
Hartington battled back to outscore the Lady Trojns 7-4 in the third quarter and 13-12 in the final frame, but it wasn’t enough.
Anna Brownell paced the Lady Trojans with a team-high 14 points.
HPS was led in the contest by Lori Fischer and Nikole Folkers, who both popped in 10 counters. Hartington will take a break for awhile, but will be in action again after Christmas at the Creighton Holiday Tourney.
