Cardinals drop a pair of games

RANDOLPH — The Randolph boys basketball team is still searching for its first win after two losses this past week.

On Thursday, the Cardinals lost to the defending Class C-2 champion Ponca Indians in a 72-49 decision at Ponca. The Indians controlled the game from start to finish, building a seven-point lead and taking advantage of several Randolph miscues to post the 23-point win.

“Turnovers were an issue at times and that will need to be cleaned up,” coach Mark Anderson said. “We also need to improve our defense in the paint.” Merrix Denn and Keaton Backhaus both scored 13 points to lead Randolph, while Mason Nordhues added 10, Carter Schnoor put in nine and Judson Hixson had four.
