Minutes
January 9, 2012
The Hartington City Council met for their regular meeting on January 9, 2012 at the city hall beginning at 7:00 P.M. Notice of time and place of the meeting was given in the advance notice by posting. Notice of time and place of the meeting was communicated in the advance notice to the mayor and council.
Present were Mayor Peitz; Councilpersons Burbach, Christensen, and Kruse; and City Clerk-Treasurer Lenzen. Absent were Legal Adviser Pier and Councilwoman Addison. Mayor Peitz announced that the open meeting law poster was on the back wall of the council room. He also reminded everyone present to silence their cell phones.
A notice to approve the minutes of the December 19, 2011 meeting and the December 2011 treasurer’s report was made by Burbach and seconded by Christensen. A roll call vote was taken. Burbach – yes, Christensen – yes, and Kruse – yes. Motion carried.
A building permit was submitted by Larry Johnson for a screened in patio. The permit was reviewed and a motion to approve it was made by Burbach and seconded by Kruse. A roll call vote was taken. Burbach – yes, Kruse – yes, and Christensen – yes. Motion carried.
Mayor Peitz appointed Laura Addison to the ambulance squad. A motion to approve the appointment was made by Burbach and seconded by Christensen. A roll call vote was taken. Burbach – yes, Christensen – yes, and Kruse – yes. Motion carried.
The council discussed street paving projects. Keith DeJong, Eisenbraun & Association , had prepared plans for Felber Street – Robinson to Summit; Cedar Street – Felber to Goetz; Court Street – Lemon to Portland; State Street – Aberley to Portland; and Alley – Center to Franklin between Summit and Broadway. The council would like to meet with the property owners whose property is adjacent to the streets. Meetings will be set up.
The following department reports were given.
POLICE – Councilman Burbach: Requested to go into executive session later in the meeting.
PARK/POOL – Councilperson Addison: None
COMPLEX – Councilman Kruse: None. Mr. Kruse did discuss with the council the issues with the scoreboard at the auditorium.
FIRE/AMBULANCE – Councilman Christensen: None
GENERAL – Mayor Peitz: None.
Clerk Lenzen did report that the Life Service Blood Center, formerly the Siouxland Blood Bank, has requested to use the basement of the city auditorium every other month for their blood drive. The council had no problem with this request.

At 8:45 P.M. a motion was made by Burbach and seconded by Kruse to come out of executive session. A roll call vote was taken. Burbach – yes, Kruse – yes, and Christensen – yes. Motion carried.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:03 P.M. The next scheduled meeting is for January 23, 2012.
