Short agenda, short meeting for board

The Pierce County Board of Commissioners met Monday, April 28, and dealt with a short agenda, including bids for blades, bits, signs, gravel and culverts.

The board listened to the bids given for all categories and, in the end, adopted a motion to accept all bids, giving individual board members the opportunity to buy from the least expensive vendor. Sometimes vendor prices vary because of their location, which affects delivery prices.

The board discussed Blue Cross-Blue Shield health insurance and agreed to send County Clerk Shannon Wragge and Deputy Susan Peters to a meeting to be held by Blue Cross-Blue Shield representatives on Wednesday, May 7, in Norfolk. Board Chairman Jim Maas said he also would probably attend.

In other business, the board:

— in Board of Equalization session, approved tax list corrections 2536-2538 as submitted by County Assessor Peggy Wragge.

— went into closed session with County Attorney Verlyn Luebbe to discuss mental health issues with no decision made after the session was concluded.

— approved a Special Designated Liquor License for Jerry’s Hilltop for an event to be held Saturday, May 31, 2014, from 3 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. at the Pierce County Pavilion.

— approved a Special Designated Liquor License for Tomek-Otto American Legion Post 72 in Pierce for an event to be held on Saturday, May 24, 2014, from 3 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Pierce County Pavilion.
