Dona Reed to be inducted into the South Dakota Hall of Fame

PIERCE — Dona (Ray) Reed of Pierce is one of 13 individuals selected for induction into the South Dakota High School Basketball Class of 2018 Hall of Fame on Saturday, March 24. The induction ceremony will be during a banquet at the Ramkota Hotel in Sioux Falls. The event will begin at 1 p.m.

Reed played a key role for a Yankton High School squad that won four Class A state titles in the first five seasons that girls’ basketball was an official sport in the state. Reed averaged 17 points per game her senior season, leading the Gazelles to an undefeated season while earning a championship game MVP award, among many others.

In the 1977 tournament, she scored 66 points and had 29 rebounds. In the two years Reed played for the Gazelles, she scored 688 points and had 309 rebounds. She went on to star at Yankton College, earning an Academic All- American honor her senior year. Reed and her husband, Robin, have three children: Tahnee, Connor and Timaree. Robin is the son of Chick and Dee Reed of Osmond.
