Phyllis I. Salmon

WAKEFIELD — Phyllis I. Salmon, 82, Wakefield, died Dec. 8, 2017, at Faith Regional Hospital, Norfolk. Visitation and a prayer service were Monday at Salem Lutheran Church, Wakefield. Funeral services were Dec. 12 at Salem Lutheran Church, Wakefield, with Pastor Patti Meyer officiating. Burial was in the Wakefield Cemetery. Bressler – Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home, Wakefield, was in charge of the arrangements. Phyllis was born July 15, 1935, near Concord, the daughter of Arthur and Evelina (Magnuson) Johnson. She graduated from Concord High School in 1953 and attended Wayne State College. Phyllis taught rural school for four years. She married Dean Salmon June 23, 1957, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Concord, NE. They had two children, Bennett and LeAnn. Phyllis babysat for 20 years, and worked for the Wakefield Cleaners. She worked for 27 years at the Wakefield Health Care Center as a dietary aide until her retirement. Phyllis enjoyed sewing, playing bridge and pinochle. She was a member of the Wakefield Fireman’s Auxiliary and Salem Lutheran Church, where she was active in circle and the WELCA. She is survived by a son, Bennett (Kathleen) Salmon, Wakefield, and daughter, LeAnn Miner, Wakefield; five grandchildren, Erin Smith, Shanda Geiser, Andrea Wortman, Laura Salmon and Brady Miner; and 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Marlen (Susie) Johnson, Concord; Leon (Linda) Johnson, Broken Arrow, Okla.; Delwyn (Fern) Johnson, Oklahoma City, Okla.; sister, Doris (Jim) Nelson, Concord; and sisters-in-law, Ardyce Johnson, Laurel, and Mary Johnson, Allen. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dean Salmon; grandson, Shad Miner; son-in-law, Vern Miner; and two brothers, Evert and Dwight “Duke” Johnson. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation
