Obituary – William A. “Tony” Mathiason

SOUTH SIOUX CITY — William A. “Tony” Mathiason, 70, South Sioux City, died July 6, 2011, at a Sioux City, Iowa, hospital.
Visitation was July 8 at the funeral home.
Services were July 9 at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home, South Sioux City, with the Rev. Jerry Gilbreath officiating.
Burial, with military rites, was in Memorial Park Cemetery, South Sioux City.

Pallbearers were Lester Keith, Ryan Lias, Danny Harder, Tommy Boyd, Kosal Prak and Patricia Krontz.
Tony was born Jan. 30, 1941, in rural Hartington, the son of Ludwig and Geraldine G. (Wreen) Mathiason. He served in the U.S. Army from Aug. 1, 1962-Aug. 7, 1964. He married Leila C. Ulmer June 9, 1963, at the Lutheran church, Hartington. The couple moved to South Sioux City in 1966. He was employed at Garvin’s Salvage. He later worked on the street department for the city of South Sioux City until retiring. After his retirement he drove truck for Johnny Swick.
He was a member of the Lutheran faith and the American Legion Cownie-Church Post 307.
Survivors include his wife, Leila, South Sioux City; three sons and their wives, Ricky and Jeannie, Roy and Amy, Rodney and Holly, all of Sioux City, Iowa; four grandchildren, Mindee Banys, Brandon Johnson, Shelby and Quillen Mathiason; and three great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Adan and Elijah Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, John.
