Obituary – Virginia Dale Nielsen

SOUTH SIOUX CITY — Virginia Dale Nielsen, 85, South Sioux City, died Oct. 13, 2011, surrounded by her family.
Visitation and a prayer service were Oct. 16 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, South Sioux City.
Services were Oct. 17 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, South Sioux City, with the Rev. Carol Jean Stapleton officiating.
Graveside services were in the City Cemetery, Obert.
Arrangements were under the care of Becker-Hunt Funeral Home, South Sioux City.

Virginia, the daughter of Clayborne B. and Lillis M. (Peters) Howard, was born Nov. 12, 1925, in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa. She graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1944. She married Llan D. Nielsen May 24, 1946, in South Sioux City.
She was employed at Zenith and retired from Prince Hydraulics in Hartington.
She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in South Sioux City.
Virginia enjoyed playing cards, cooking, crocheting and especially embroidering quilts for her family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her son, Melvin Nielsen and his companion, Pam Gilbert, both of Redfield, Iowa; a daughter, Renee, and her husband, Robert Allan, Sioux City, Iowa; a sister, June Lockwood, Sioux City, Iowa; two brothers, Harry and his wife, Jane Howard, Sioux City, Iowa, and Robert Howard, Greenfield, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Kendall and wife, Sherry Nielsen, Sioux City, Iowa, and Gus and wife, Betty Pappas, South Sioux City; sisters-in-law, Vergean and husband, Harley Matney, Dakota Dunes, S.D.; Faye and husband, Ron Sailors, Yankton, S.D.; and Beverly Nielsen, Homer; grandchildren, Shawn (April) Allan, Michelle (Travis) Helt, Teresa (Brian) Fitch, Britt (Meredith) Allan, Mandy (Mike) McKnight, Bev Carroll and Trish (Dave) Johnson; 15 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and family and friends at Regency Square Care Center and Assisted Living.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Llan, Feb. 24, 2002, Sioux City; a daughter, Terrie Lynn Nielsen; a daughter-in-law, Karen Nielsen; a brother, Paul Howard; brothers-in-law, Harold Lockwood, Marvin Nielsen and Russ Helzer; and sisters-in-law, Connie Howard, Margret Howard and Carol Pappas.
