Verna Mae (Straight) Creamer was born at home in Wayne, Dec. 26, 1926, to Tully and Hattie (Young) Straight.

Verna attended Wayne County schools and graduated from Wayne High School in 1944.  She attended Wayne State Teacher’s College for one year and taught in a country school.  Verna married Duane Creamer June 9, 1946.  The couple made their first home on a farm near Concord where they raised hogs, milked cows and grew corn and beans.  While living there, two sons, Warren and Gregory, were born as well as a daughter, Diane. In 1963, the family moved to a farm west of Wayne, feeding cattle and hogs and raising row crops.  A third son, David, arrived while living on the farm near Wayne.  In 1973, Duane and Verna moved to their own farm northwest of Carroll. In 1982, Verna and Duane moved from the farm to a new home in Wayne.

Verna and Duane took many wonderful trips together to places like Hawaii, Jamaica, Nassau, San Diego, Orlando and Colorado.

Verna was a homemaker who loved her family, baked great cinnamon rolls and tried to keep the cookie jar full. She was a great seamstress, read books and worked crossword puzzles.  Verna enjoyed a lively talk about politics; and she was most recently an avid fan of the Kansas City Royals and the Huskers, watching most of their games on television.  Verna was a member of the United Methodist Church and  the United Methodist Women.  She was a past member of the Central Social Circle.

She is survived by son, Warren and wife, Eunice; son, Gregory; and daughter, Diane, and husband, Kevin Peters, all of Wayne; and son, David, Omaha; three granddaughters: Amy (Ray) Rutland, Norfolk; Lisa Ritter, Louisville; and Laura Creamer, Omaha; and two great-grandchildren, Phoenix and Dominic Ritter, Louisville; a sister, Virginia Dranselka; sister-in-law, Pat Straight, Wayne; brother-in-law and wife, Larry and Reva Creamer, Olathe, Kan.; four sisters-in-law and husbands, Faunia and Paul Dewitt, Gering; Judy and Gary Kruger, Reno, Nev.; Leola and Charles Morton, Cody, Wyo.; and Rosemary and Harry Ley, Cody, Wyo.; and many nieces and nephews.
