NORFOLK — Roy H. Diefenderfer, 91, Norfolk, died March 18, 2011, at Faith Regional Health Services, Norfolk.
Visitation was one hour prior to the memorial service Tuesday.
Memorial Services were March 22, 2011, at the Wintz Funeral Home, Crofton, with Rev. Lowell Hennigs officiating. Military Honors were provided by the Crofton American Legion Post 128.


Roy was born Nov. 16, 1919, in Norfolk, to Harry and Anna (Volk) Diefenderfer. He grew up on the family farm in rural Stanton. He attended country school in rural Stanton and graduated from Norfolk High School. He married Deloris Irene Mather June 22, 1941, in Norfolk. Roy enlisted in the United States Navy in 1941 and served at Pearl Harbor as a radioman until his discharge in 1945. They moved back to Norfolk after Roy’s discharge and Roy started working for Petring Motor Company, Norfolk, as a shop foreman. In 1957, he started working as a carpenter with Norris Hettrick, which he continued until 1979, when he went to work with his son, Terry, as a plumber. Roy retired in 1992.
He was a member and past commander of the Crofton VFW and enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, and woodworking. Roy was a hardworking man his whole life and was always willing to help anyone in need.
Survivors include his wife, Deloris Diefenderfer, Yankton, S.D.; two sons and spouses, Larry and Carol Diefenderfer, Eureka, Mont., and Terry and Linda Diefenderfer, Yankton, S.D.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother and wife, John and Shirley Diefenderfer, Thousand Oaks, Calif.; two sisters and husbands, Ellen and Harry Heckendorf, Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Mary and Don Forbes, Vista, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
