Obituary – Paul William Wattier

RANDOLPH — Paul William Wattier, 95, Randolph, died Nov. 8, 2011, at the Osmond General Hospital, Osmond.
Visitation and a Rosary were Nov. 11 at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, Randolph, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home, Randolph.
Funeral services were Nov. 12 at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, Randolph, with Rev. Michael J. Swanton officiating.
Interment was in St. Frances Catholic Cemetery, Randolph, with Military Rites provided by Alvin Kessler V.F.W. Post #5545 and American Legion Post #113, Randolph.

Pallbearers were Jamie Gubbels, Eric Wattier, Chris Lenhoff, Brian Wattier, Corey Haselhorst and Jacob Borst.
Paul was born five miles south of Randolph, Aug. 10, 1916, to Clovis and Clara (Book) Wattier. He attended St. Frances School, Randolph, graduating in 1934. He worked after school and Saturdays for his brother, Carl, at the City Grocery Store, Randolph. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps in January 1942. Paul married Lorraine Wilson, Tujunga, Calif., Aug. 28, 1943, and they made their home in Lancaster, Calif. In December 1945 when Paul was discharged from military service, he, Lorraine and daughter, Paula Sue, returned to Randolph. He resumed working for his brother, Carl. In August 1948, he purchased the grocery store from Carl and operated it as Wattier’s Grocery. He was a proud member of Affiliated Grocers for 39 years and retired Dec. 31, 1985. In his retirement years, Paul worked at Pronto, Randolph. Paul had been a resident of Colonial Manor in Randolph since April, 2011.
Paul served with the Randolph Volunteer Fire Department for 32 years; was a member of Randolph Community Club and St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church in Randolph.
Paul is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lorraine Wattier, Randolph; seven children and spouses, Paula Sue and Ken Rasmussen, Norfolk; Lynn and Cindy Wattier, LaVista ; Linda and Chuck Lenhoff, Lincoln; Michael and Arlis Wattier, Omaha; Deb and Greg Haselhorst, Lincoln; Margaret “Mag” and Randy Borst, Randolph; Laura Norvell, Omaha; 16 grandchildren and spouses, and 21 great-grandchildren: Jamie (Brenda) Gubbels, Austin and Kaden, Lincoln; Heather Barry, Mackenzie and Spencer, Omaha; Becki Wattier and Emily Sheldon, Farmington, Minn.; Eric Wattier, Omaha; Chris (Leha) Lenhoff, Jacob, Joey and Macie, Lincoln; Jason (Brenda) Lenhoff and Kyan, Lincoln; April (Ryan) Strong, Brice and Morgan, Omaha; the children of Jeremy Wattier (deceased), Kyle Radil and Roxy Wattier, Omaha; Brian Wattier, Omaha; Erin (Mark) Davies, Payton, Avrie and Kierstyn Wattier, Bennington; Corey (Jessikah) Haselhorst, Zan and Saeje, Tucson, Ariz.; Carissa (Christian) Anderson, Skylar, Scarlett and Sunday, Lincoln; Jacob Borst, Biloxi, Miss., and fiancé, Karissa Dominisse, Omaha; Levi Borst and fiancé, Vicki Burbach, Fremont; Lucas Borst, Fremont; Paxton and Allee Norvell, Omaha; step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren: Kevin Rasmussen, Brunswick; Loretta (Jim) Keyes, Tristan, Tea, S.D.; and Tad Pospisil, Norfolk; brother and wife, Vincent and Jean Wattier, Randolph; sisters-in-law and spouses, Lois Johnson, Eldorado, Ark.; Margie and Dave Jester, Turner, Ore.; Patty and Don Henjum, Salem, Ore.; and Betty Wattier, Randolph.
