Obituary – Melbert Rasmussen

Hartington — Melbert C. Rasmussen, 98, Hartington, died Aug. 19, 2008, at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D.
Visitation and a prayer services were Aug. 21 at the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington, and continued one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
Funeral Services were Aug. 22 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Hartington, with Rev. Bob Bryan officiating.
Burial was in the Obert Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Tyler Robb, Kent Rasmussen, Paul Stolpe, Gary Rasmussen, Jerry Wiedenfeld and Glen Olson.
Melbert was born Dec. 1, 1909, at Ponca, to Nels and Christianne (Jensen) Rasmussen. He grew up on a farm east of Hartington and attended Lone Valley School. He married Ethel Stolpe Nov. 19, 1938, at Maskell. They farmed east of Hartington until moving into Hartington in 1982.
They were members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Obert, until 1967, when they transferred to Trinity Lutheran, Hartington. Melbert and Ethel received the Oldest Living Couple award at Hartington’s Quasquicentennial celebration in May of this year.
Melbert is survived by his wife, Ethel, Hartington; two children, Dennis and Sandra Rasmussen, Clearwater, Fla., and Lisa Robb, Carmel, Ind.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three infant sons; six brothers, Levi, Oswald, Harry, Herbert, Ransom and Norman Rasmussen; and 2 sisters, Anna McCracken and Gertrude Noirot.
