Obituary – Maxine Kardell

WISNER — Maxine Kardell, 77, Wisner, formerly of Laurel, died Sept. 30, 2011, at Faith Regional Health Services, Norfolk.
Visitation was Oct. 3 at United Presbyterian Church, Laurel.
Funeral services were Oct. 4 at United Presbyterian Church, Laurel, with Rev. Rachelle McCalla officiating.
Interment was in the Laurel Cemetery, Laurel.

Pallbearers were Keith Knudsen, John Knudsen, Kody Knudsen, Ron Stone, Rick Arduser and  Kevin Krei.
Arrangements were under the direction of Hasemann Funeral Home, Laurel.
Maxine Olive Kardell was born Nov. 27, 1933, at Laurel, to Arthur and Olive (Shively) Winquist.   She was baptized and confirmed at the United Presbyterian Church, Laurel.  She attended Tip Top Country School near Laurel, graduating from Laurel High School, and attended Wayne State Teachers College.  Maxine was country school teacher for a few years before her marriage to Donald Kardell June 6, 1954, at the United Presbyterian Church, Laurel.  The couple lived near Laurel, moving to Wisner in 1988.  For 22 years, Maxine was a postal clerk with the U.S. Postal Service, working in Laurel and later in Wisner.  Maxine was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Laurel.
She enjoyed time outdoors and caring for animals.
Maxine is survived by her husband, Donald; one daughter, Janeen Dickes and special friend, Kirt Cunningham, Laurel; one son and wife,  Gordon and Cindy Kardell, Norfolk; three grandchildren, Kimberly (Eric) Knickrehm, Tyler Dickes and Jennifer Kardell; and nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents; an infant daughter, Sandra; and a sister, Margaret Knudsen.
