LAUREL — Mary Y. Benthack, 85, Laurel, formerly of Wayne, died March 24, 2011, at Hillcrest Care Center, Laurel.
Visitation was March 27 at the Laurel United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were March 28 at United Methodist Church, Laurel, with Rev. Jaime Farias officiating.
Interment was in the Laurel Cemetery, Laurel.


Honorary pallbearers were Mary’s great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers were Mary’s grandsons, Kyle Nixon, Matt Bruggeman, Trevor Hall, Shawn Arens, Mark Johnson, Brad Johnson and Chad Johnson.
Arrangements were under the direction of Hasemann Funeral Home, Laurel.
Mary Yolanda Benthack was born May 20, 1925, at Hebbronville, Texas, to Gilbert and Isabel (Philbert) Olson. She grew up on a ranch near Hebbronville and graduated from Hebbronville High School. Mary married Dean Bruggeman June 17, 1944, at Laredo Air Force Base Chapel, Laredo, Texas. Following World War II, they farmed near Laurel until moving into Laurel in 1965. Mary married Dr. Robert Benthack Feb. 26, 1994. They made their home in Wayne. Mary moved to Assisted Living at Hillcrest Care Center, Laurel, in September 2010.
Mary was a member of United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed spending winters in Texas, crocheting, sewing and traveling.
Mary is survived by her children and their spouses, Dean and Diane Bruggeman, Wayne; Sandra and Robert Hall, Carroll; and Penny and Brent Johnson, Concord; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Bob and wife, Judi Olson, and Dick Olson, all of Cibolo, Texas; sister, Alma Bailey, Whitney, Texas; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Dean in 1992, and Dr. Robert, in 1994; brother, Tom Olson; sister, Ida Bertram; and infant brother, Frank.
