Obituary – Marlene J. Kalin

COLERIDGE — Marlene J. Kalin, 75, Coleridge, died Nov. 22, 2011, at the Providence Medical Center, Wayne.
Visitation and a Vigil Service were Nov. 25 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Coleridge, and continued one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
Mass of Christian Burial was Nov. 26 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Coleridge, with Rev. Jeffery Loseke officiating.

Honorary Pallbearers were her granddaughters, Samantha Kalin and Jessica Ahrendt.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Dexter, Luke, Joshua, Zachary, Tony and Matt Kalin, and Jeremy and Joel Eddie.
Burial was in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Coleridge.
The Wintz Funeral Home, Coleridge, was in charge of arrangements.
Marlene was born Dec. 30, 1935, in Hartington, to Elmo Henry and Florence Amelia (Koch) Dreesen. She grew up and attended school in Hartington. She married Stephen D. Kalin Jan. 13, 1953, at Coleridge, where they made their home. Marlene began working as a housekeeper for the Coleridge Nursing Home in 1962. From Aug. 8, 1972-Aug. 9, 2010, she worked as a nurse’s aide for Park View Haven Nursing Home, Coleridge.
Marlene was a member of the St. Michael’s Catholic Church and Guild.
She loved to read and tend to her garden.
Marlene is survived by her husband, Stephen, Coleridge; three children and their spouses, Marlin and Sharon Kalin, Jackson; Debra and Charles Eddie, Ashland; Dave and Mary Kalin, Norfolk; a daughter-in-law, Sheila Kalin, Coleridge; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; seven sisters and spouses, Lorraine Harbeck, Lawndale, Calif.; Bernadine Davis, Littleton, Colo.; Mary and Charles Young, Jackson; Helen and Alan Heikes, Wayne; Karen and Roger Arndt, Spencer, Iowa; Linda and Lonnie Schrempp, Yankton, S.D.; Janice and Jim Tuttle, Hartington; and a sister-in-law, Mary Dreesen, Yankton, S.D.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Vickie Ahrendt; a son, Gerald Kalin; three brothers, Richard, Robert and Edwin Dreesen; and a sister, Phyllis Vettel.
