Obituary – Lloyd Wendel

HASTINGS — Lloyd Morten Wendel, 82, Sioux City, Iowa, died Aug. 7, 2008, at Mary Lanning Hospital, Hastings.
Memorial graveside services for Lloyd will be held Aug. 16, at 11 a.m., in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, Iowa, with Rev. Scott Squires officiating.
Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, Sioux City, is in charge of arrangements.
Lloyd Morten Wendel was born in Laurel Dec. 3, 1925, to John and Edith (Webb) Wendel. He grew up on a farm in Cedar County and graduated from Laurel High School in 1943.

In 1945, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in South Korea. He married Mary Lou Stingley and they had four children, Richard, Greg, Kathy and Terry. They farmed northeast of Dixon from 1950-1971, when they moved into Laurel. Lloyd was a salesman for T&W Tire in Sioux City, Iowa, from 1971 until he retired. He married Janet (Gile) Peyton July 16, 1977.
He remained active through his retirement, moving to Hastings in May 2008.
Lloyd is survived by two sons, Richard and wife, Rhonda, Hastings, and Greg and wife, Teri, Norfolk; a daughter, Kathy Ryder, and husband, Kevin, Lincoln; and a stepson, Gary Peyton, LaFayette, Ark.; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Bayne, Decatur, Ga.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife Janet; son, Terry; stepson, Keith Peyton; sister, Iola Schwarm; and brother, George Wendel.
