Obituary – Kenneth Klanderud

HARTINGTON — Kenneth Oscar Klanderud, 89, Hartington, died Feb. 27, 2008, at the Mountain View Medical Center, Mesa, Ariz.
Visitation and a Prayer Service were held March 2 at the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington, and continued one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
Funeral Services were March 3 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Hartington, with Rev. Bob Bryan officiating.


Burial was at the Wynot Cemetery with military services provided by the Hartington American Legion Post 5283.
Pallbearers were his grandsons, Kevin Klanderud, Corey Klanderud, Keith Klanderud, Kris Klanderud, Kent Klanderud and Cameron Nash.
Kenneth was born Nov. 12, 1918, at Obert, to Oscar and Ella (Thompson) Klanderud. He grew up in the Obert area and graduated from Obert High School in 1936. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1946, stationed in California and Alaska. He married Ardis Jones on Dec. 22, 1943, at Hartington. After his discharge from the service, he farmed in northeast Nebraska until moving to Omaha in 1956 where he worked as a civil engineer at Roberts Dairy until his retirement in 1981. He held various offices for Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Omaha. In 1983, they moved to Hartington where Kenneth was active in the Trinity Lutheran Church, the Town and Country Square Dance Club and the Hartington VFW Post 5283. Ardis died April 7, 1989. Kenneth married Betty Reilly July 22, 2000, at South Sioux City. He and Betty made their home in Hartington and spent the last seven winters in Mesa.
Kenneth is survived by his wife Betty, Hartington; five children, Robert Klanderud, Mankato, Minn.; Sandra and James Nash, Corvallis, Ore.; Richard Klanderud, Omaha; Brenda and Michael Klingensmith, Kansas City, Mo.; Nancy and Timothy Cullen, Omaha; 12 grandchildren, Kevin, Katie, Corey, LaNell, Keith, Kris and Kent Klanderud; Jennifer, Cameron and Danella Nash; and Kathryn and Jonathan Klingensmith; seven great-grandchildren, Andrew, Mary, Carter, Thomas, Hope and Anthony Klanderud, and Kegan Cullen, six step children, Bill and Luanna Reilly, Dallas, Texas; Tom and Cindy Reilly, Emmetsburg, Iowa; Deb and Ed Schwegler, Hubbard; Kevin and Sharon Reilly, Sioux City, Iowa; Karen and Jerry Iler, Atlanta, Georgia; Chris and Jim Knudson, Silverdale, Wash.; nine step grandchildren, nine step great-grandchildren; a brother and wife, Wendell and Barb Klanderud, Blair; two sisters, Eunice Heimes, Hartington, and Phyllis and Lee Fideline, Ralston.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Ardis.
