CROFTON — Kathryn C. Cayler, 70, Crofton, died Feb. 19, 2011, at the Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, S.D.
Visitation, with a Prayer Service and Video Tribute, was Feb. 23 at the Wintz Funeral Home, Crofton, and continued one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
Funeral services were Feb. 24 at the Congregational United Church of Christ, Crofton, with Pastor Les Parmenter officiating.
Burial was in the Beaver View Cemetery, rural Crofton.

Honorary Pallbearers were Kelli Stallbaum, Amanda Cayler, Kristin Cayler, Leanna Cayler, Maxine Mormann, Shirley Yonke, Mary Trenhaile, Evelyn Meirose, Betty Johnson and Verlyn Nohr.Pallbearers were Ryan Stallbaum, Travis Schroeder, Patrick Mines, Dean Mormann, Burl Mormann and Brad Ronke.
Kathryn was born Sept. 18, 1940, at rural Crofton, to Dewey and Alma (Haberer) Mines. She grew up on a farm on the Missouri River bottom, which is now under Lewis and Clark Lake. She attended Frankfort School, St. Rose Elementary School and graduated from Crofton High School in 1958. She married W. Dean Cayler June 9, 1958, at Crofton. They farmed near Bloomfield for several years and then moved to the old Weigand farm place northwest of Crofton. In 1981, they moved the family house into Crofton. Kathryn did seasonal work for Gurney’s, Stuepnagels and the Best Western Kelly Inn, Yankton, until 1998 when she had a kidney transplant. She sold her house and moved to the Cottonwood Villa in 2008.
Kathryn was a member of Friends Forever Extension Club. She enjoyed reading, hunting for antiques, refinishing furniture, gardening, and spending time with her family. She was an excellent cook and was known for her pies.
Kathryn is survived by a son, Marty Cayler, Bloomfield; a daughter and son in law, Karla and Larry Stallbaum, Crofton; former daughter-in-law, Deb Cayler, Bloomfield; a grandson, Ryan Stallbaum and his fiancé, Caitlin Hooi, of North Ridgeville, Ohio; four granddaughters, Kristin Cayler and her fiancé, Tony Mackeprang, Bloomfield; Kelli Stallbaum, Crofton; Amanda Cayler and her fiancé, Jeremy Carther, Lincoln; Leanna Cayler, Lincoln; an honorary grandson, Travis Schroeder, Watkins, Minn.; a brother, Dennis and Janet Mines, Yankton, S.D.; and a brother-in-law, Phil Donner, Crofton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dean, July 5, 1993, at the age of 59; and a sister, LeAnn Donner.
