Obituary – Joy M. Merrigan

CROFTON — Joy M. Merrigan, 87, Crofton, died March 13, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Center, Bloomfield.
A private family interment will occur at the Crofton City Cemetery at a later date, under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Crofton.

Joy was born April 27, 1923, at Hurley, S.D., to Milton and Mary Rebecca (Kelley) Barnhart.  She lived in Hurley until moving to Yankton, S.D., when she was about nine years old. She graduated from Yankton High School and then moved to California. She married Ted Williams May 6, 1941, at San Diego, Calif.  After their marriage, they lived in California until moving to Crofton in 1963. Ted died June 11, 1978. Joy had worked at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, and also at the Human Service Center, Yankton, for several years. Joy married William Merrigan in January 1980. They lived in Yankton until his death Feb.  21, 1987. At that time, Joy returned to Crofton and had been a resident of the Good Samaritan Center, Bloomfield, for just a week.
Joy is survived by a sister, Gladys Holbrook, Yankton, S.D., and her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both of her husbands; and two sisters, Betty and Beverly Sage.
