Obituary – Howard M. Daily

NORFOLK — Howard M. Daily, 82, Norfolk, died Oct. 8, 2011, at Heritage of Bel Air, Norfolk, surrounded by his family.
Visitation was Oct. 10 at Home for Funerals, Norfolk.
Funeral services were Oct. 11 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Norfolk, with Rev. Daniel Andrews officiating.
Burial was in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Norfolk, with Military Rites by American Legion Post 16, VFW Post 1644 and the Nebraska National Guard Honor Guard.

Active pallbearers were Howard’s grandchildren: Nate Daily, Sarah Daily, Jodi Hastings, Becky Daily, Luke Daily, Jake Hastings, Jared Hastings, Leah Uhing, Ty Uhing and Tessa Uhing.
Howard was born Oct. 5, 1929, at Milburn, to Merle and Gladys (Butcher) Daily. He graduated from Sargent High School in 1947 and served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953, during the Korean War, where he received two Bronze Campaign Stars, the United Nations Service medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Army Occupation Medal (Japan) and the Purple Heart.
Howard married Bernadette Daly Nov. 23, 1950, at Burwell, and celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Howard worked as a ranch hand and then for Douglas Feed, which later became Walnut Grove Products. He managed plants starting in 1966 at Elkhorn, Osceola and then moved to Norfolk in 1971, retiring in 1991.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Parish, Military Order of the Purple Heart, American Legion Post 16, and VFW Post 1644.
Howard is survived by his children: Jeanette Hastings, Norfolk; Dan Daily, Norfolk; David Daily, Orleans; and Kathy, and husband, Mike Uhing, Hartington; two brothers and wives, George and Georgia Daily, Bella Vista, Ariz., and Bill and Sharon Daily, Elkhorn; three sisters, Gertie and husband, Don Dickman, Bella Vista, Ariz.; Mary Alice Lynn, Colo.; and Ida and Don Bromm, Tekamah; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernadette, Dec. 17, 2010; his parents; one son, Loren Merle; one granddaughter, Amanda Cheyenne; and three sisters.
