Obituary – Hosea J. Carnes Jr.

CHEROKEE, Iowa — Hosea J. Carnes Jr., 83, rural Cherokee, Iowa, died Feb. 7, 2012, at Munroe Regional Medical Center, Ocala, Fla.
Funeral services were Feb. 13 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Quimby, Iowa. Pastor Don Meyer and Vicar Scot Kerns officiated.
Burial was in Pilot Township Cemetery, rural Cherokee.

Hosea was born Feb. 23, 1928, to Hosea and Jeanette (Matson) Carnes Sr., at Hartington. He graduated from Castana High School in 1945. He joined the United States Air Force in 1950 and was honorably discharged in 1953.
He married Georgine Greene March 22, 1951, in Biloxi, Miss., where Hosea was stationed. After his service in the Air Force was completed, they moved back to Iowa and farmed around Moville, Iowa, and Holstein, Iowa.
Hosea is survived by his loving wife, Georgine Carnes; three children, Becky Todd and her husband, David, Quimby, Iowa; Steve Carnes, Adel, Iowa; and Scott Carnes and his wife, Mary, Cherokee, Iowa; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Kyle) Schimmer, Galva, Iowa; Terri (Orin) Cheever, Holstein, Iowa; Matthew (Jessica) Todd, Cleghorn, Iowa; Sarah Carnes, Minneapolis, Minn.; Katie Carnes, Cherokee, Iowa; Erica Carnes, Des Moines, Iowa; six great-grandchildren, Jacob, Elizabeth and Caleb Schimmer; Brianna and Logan Cheever; and Gracie Todd; brother, Bob Carnes, and his wife, Dorothy, Pierson, Iowa; brother-in-law, Bob Bowen, Ida Grove, Iowa; and sister-in-law, Virginia Carnes, Oak Creek, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Marie Carnes, and Marvel Clover and her husband, Thomas; a brother, Frank Carnes; and a sister-in-law, Patricia Bowen.
