Obituary – Gerald J. Hansen

Randolph — Gerald J. Hansen, 90, Randolph, formerly of Coleridge, died Feb. 19, 2012, at the Norfolk Veterans Home, Norfolk.

Visitation and a prayer service were Feb. 21 at the Wintz Funeral Home, Coleridge. Visitation will continue Wednesday at church one hour prior to services.

Funeral Services will be Feb. 22, at 10:30 a.m., at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Coleridge, with the Rev. Katherine Russell officiating.

Burial will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery, McLean, with Military Honors by the Randolph VFW Post #5545.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Kyle Gunnerson, Steven Bossung, Scott Bossung, Matthew Smith, Benjamin Hansen, Brian Hansen, Gabriel Hansen, Cory Hansen, William Hansen, Michael Hansen, Christopher Hansen and Bryan Swanson.

Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters, Roxanne (Smith) Mathews, Kelli (Hansen) Larson, Renee (Hansen) Mount and Lindsay Swanson.

Gerald John Hansen was born Jan. 24, 1922, to Henry C. and Augusta (Buchholz) Hansen on the family farm near Coleridge. He grew up and lived in the Coleridge area most of his life. He served in the Marine Corps from Aug. 25, 1942, until Oct. 31, 1945. Gerald married Lavone Sellon Sept. 14, 1945, in Randolph. He and Lavone moved from a farm near Coleridge to the Randolph area in 1965 where he continued farming. Gerald retired in 1986 and moved into Randolph. Lavone died July 12, 1998, at the age of 73. Gerald had resided at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home, Randolph, for over the past year. He was residing at the Norfolk Veterans Home at the time of his death.

Gerald was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Coleridge, and a member of the Randolph VFW – Alvin Kessler Post #5545. He also loved to play cards.

He is survived by his five children and their spouses, Carolyn and Raymond Bossung, Lincoln; Dianne Smith and Jim Gruidel, Johnson Lake; Robert and Linda Hansen, Lincoln; Joseph and Gail Hansen, McLean; Daniel and Alice Hansen, Wichita, Kan.; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and special friend, Norma Novak, Randolph.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lavone; three brothers, Lawrence, Irvin and Wilfred Hansen; and two sisters, Lillian Petersen and Alvera Houston.
