George A. Shields

NORTH PLATTE — George A. Shields, 77, North Platte, died July 4, 2011, at Linden Court.
Memorial services were held July 8 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, North Platte.
Cremation has been chosen. Inurnment will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Valentine.
Carpenter Memorial Chapel, North Platte, was in charge of all arrangements.

George was born Nov. 6, 1933, to Joseph and Dora (Newland) Shields at Norden.  He married Eileen Wilkens June 16, 1958. She preceded him in death March 18, 1981, from cancer.  George then married Bea (Hatch) Jenkins May 22, 1982, at Gordon.  He ranched for 34 years, 50 miles southwest of Valentine and enjoyed training horses. He was also active with the McKelvey Forest Service.
George was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church; Lions Club, Clarksdale, Mo.; and a school board member of Cody-Kilgore Schools.
He is survived by his wife, Bea, North Platte; three daughters and spouses, Monica and Steve Timmer, Cindy and Mike Monroe, all of St. Joseph, Mo.; and Frances and Kenneth Denison, Randolph; a step son and wife, Dale and Teresa Jenkins, Oshkosh; and six grandchildren, Samuel (Amanda) and Maggie Timmer, Michael Eben and James George Monroe, and Tanner and Ashlyn Jenkins.
George was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Harvey; and three sisters, Sarah Packard, Edith Dodd and Rose Marie Shields.
Memorials are suggested to the Lions Club.
