Obituary – Frank L. Walter

Frank L.Walter, age 91, of Crofton, died on Thursday, December 6, 2007 at the Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton.

Funeral Services will be at 2:00 pm on Monday, Dec. 10, 2007 at the United Church of Christ Congregational in Crofton with Rev. Les Parmenter officiating.  Burial will be in the Crofton City Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Sunday from 3:00 to 8:00 pm with a prayer service and video tribute at 7:00 pm at the Wintz Funeral Home in Crofton.

Frank was born on October 1, 1916 at Crofton to Frank J. and Arley Mae (Stocking) Walter. He attended West Blyville School.  He married Elvina M. Grandorff on June 25, 1939 at Crofton.  They made their first home on the Frank Walter Sr. farm.  In September of 1939 they moved southwest of Pleasant Valley.  In December they moved back to the Crofton area.  In the spring of 1944 they moved back to the Frank Walter homestead northwest of Crofton, where they presently reside.  Frank farmed all of his life along with numerous construction jobs, such as the Gavins Point Dam and the Devil’s Nest. He always enjoyed visiting with his family and his many friends. He was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ.

Frank is survived by his wife; Elvina of Crofton, six children and their spouses; Eileen and Richard Stewart of Crofton, Leroy and Charlotte Walter of Crofton, Betty and Larry Hamilton of Crofton, Bonnie and Dennis Van Houten of Winside, NE, David and Daisy Walter of Yankton, Dale and Jodi Walter of Yankton, 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, two sisters in law; Betty Schrempp of Yankton, and Viola West of Aurora, CO, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepmother, Grace Walter.
