Obituary – Evelyn Bruning

HARTINGTON — Evelyn M. Bruning, 92, Hartington, died Dec. 13, 2007, at the Park View Haven Nursing Home. Coleridge.
Visitation, with a rosary, vigil service and video tribute, was Dec. 14 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, and continued one hour prior to services Dec. 15 at the church.
Mass of Christian Burial was Dec. 15 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington, with Rev. John Pietramale officiating.

Burial was in the St. Michael’s Cemetery, Hartington.
Pallbearers were her grandsons, Mike Bruning, David Bruning, Mark Bruning, Jeff Haag, John Haag, Jamie Haag, Jeremy Bruning, Joel Bruning and Bryan Wortmann.
Honorary pallbearers were her granddaughters, Shelly Kreikemeier, Kristine Brahmer, Amy Bruning, Anne McBride, Julie Harding, Jeana Robinette, Megan Bruning, Stacy Wortmann and Kristen Wortmann.
TheWintz Funeral Home, Hartington was in charge of arrangements.
Evelyn was born Dec. 27, 1914, at Fordyce, to George and Mary (Boeckman) Suing. She grew up in the Fordyce area and attended St. John the Baptist School. When she was 14 years old, her mother died and Evelyn assisted in raising her brother and sister. She was married to Vincent F. Bruning Jan. 2, 1939, in Fordyce. They made their home on a farm in the St. James area until moving to a farm southeast of Hartington in 1950. In 1992, Evelyn moved into Hartington and had been a resident of the Park View Haven Nursing Home since June 2006. Evelyn loved to play cards and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and attending their activities. She made great pies, cookies, and bread.
She was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the Hartington Senior Citizens Center, a local extension club, and was a member of the Solitaires.

Evelyn is survived by her six children and their spouses, Darrell and Nancy Bruning, Wisner; Don and Carol Bruning, Hartington; Dorothy and Robert Haag, Mead; Jerry and Marlyce Bruning, Coleridge; Chuck Bruning, Hartington; Carol Wortmann, Hartington; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; a sister, Bernice Pinkelman, Niobrara; and a sister-in-law, Marcella Bruning, Wynot.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Feb. 7, 1990, at the age of 78; two sons, an infant son, and Jim; a son-in-law, Dave Wortmann; and a brother, Leander Suing.
